Are you an ugly duckling?

‘In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.’  Coco Chanel

You know the story. The ugly duckling that doesn’t fit in with his neighbours. He keeps going from place to place, constantly trying to fit in, and failing every single time.

Is that you? Do you get ostracised for being different? And do you wish you were the same as the people around you, so you can belong?

Well, you know what happens in the story. The ugly duckling decides that being different is okay. And when he takes that step, he realises he is a beautiful swan, and everybody starts admiring him.

If you’re the kind of person who wants to change the world, to make a meaningful difference, chances are you know what it’s like to be an ugly duckling. As Hugh MacLeod says, big ideas have lonely childhoods.

Don’t worry. The world needs people like you. The world needs to be challenged by difference in order to survive and evolve.

And you know what? You may be feeling lonely right now, but you’re not alone. There are people out there who dream big dreams. It’s just that they usually keep quiet about their dreams, because they are afraid of others crushing their dreams. If you’re one of these people, we can be strong together. Welcome to the adventure, and rock on.
